Getting things ready for the festival and a school visit | Préparations pour le festival et une visite à l’école

I spent the week getting things ready for the Montreal Comic Arts Festival, which takes place this coming weekend.  For details, check out my post : Montreal Comic Arts Festival | Festival BD de Montréal.

In addition, I have been asked to do a school visit to present my comic to 4-6 years olds.  This week I finalized the details of the visit and have been working on preparing the materials I will need for a few small workshops I will do with the students next week.   We will be reading and discussing the comic, then do a small drawing workshop to draw the main characters.  We will also decorate paper cranes, and we’ll end with a science workshop looking at how different types of paper responds to getting water dropped on it.

En plus, on m’a demandé de faire une visite à l’école pour présenter ma BD à des jeunes de 4 à 6 ans. J’ai finalisé les détails de la visite cette semaine et j’ai travaillé à préparer le matériel nécessaire pour faire quelques petits ateliers avec les élèves la semaine prochaine. Nous lirons et parlerons de la BD, puis ferons quelques petits ateliers de dessins pour dessiner les personnages principaux. Nous décorerons aussi des grues en origami et nous ferons un atelier de science pour étudier ce qui se passe lorsqu’on fait tomber des gouttes d’eau sur différents types de papiers.

The fine print | les petits caractères

I have spent the last couple of weeks gathering information on shipping costs and options for selling the print and digital version of the comic.  I am still exploring options and reading the fine print of agreements.  Unfortunately, this takes a lot of time especially when things are written as follows:

“You hereby grant Patreon.com a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, sublicensable (through multiple tiers) right to exercise all copyright, publicity rights, and any other rights you have in Your Information, in any media now known or not currently known in order to perform and improve upon the Service.”  from the Patreon Terms of Use page:  www.patreon.com/legal

Since I am not particularly interested in giving someone perpertual, irrevocable, royalty-free rights to do stuff that isn’t explained or detailed very well, I am still looking at options for distributing a digital copy and making sure I understand the legal/terms of use agreements involved.

At the moment, my comic is available in print form at the Ottawa School of Art Boutique located in downtown Ottawa.  There is also a possiblity that I will be at the Montreal Comic Arts Festival, but that has not yet been confirmed.  As more info becomes available, I will post it here.

J’ai passé les deux dernières semaines à amasser de l’information sur les frais de livraison et sur des options pour vendre des copies papier et électronique de ma bande dessinée. J’explore toujours différentes options en prenant la peine de lire les petits caractères. Malheureusement, ça prend beaucoup de temps quand les choses sont écrites comme suit :

Comme je ne souhaite pas particulièrement donner à quelqu’un d’autre des droits perpétuels, irrévocables et exempts de redevance de faire des choses qui ne sont pas très clairement expliquées, je suis toujours à la recherche d’options pour distribuer une copie digitale et à m’assurer de comprendre les ententes légales et conditions d’utilisation que ça implique.

En ce moment, ma bande dessinée est disponible en format papier à la boutique de l’École d’Art d’Ottawa située au centre-ville d’Ottawa. Il y a également la possibilité que je sois au festival de BD de Montréal, mais ce n’est pas encore confirmé. Lorsque j’aurai plus d’information, je l’afficherai ici.
